The Vladar Company Releases Experimental Short Film ‘EDGAR’
The Vladar Company, a New York-based film production and distribution powerhouse known for its boundary-pushing storytelling, announces the release of its latest short film, EDGAR — an experimental visual narrative that captures a single, intimate day in the life of a homeless man surviving the harsh streets of New York City.
Produced and directed by Vlad Yudin, and produced by Edwin Mejia Jr., EDGAR offers a raw and poetic look into urban homelessness, reframed through an artistic lens that avoids stereotypes and leans into humanity. The film runs just under 10 minutes but delivers an emotional impact that lingers long after the final frame.
An Abstract Journey Through Isolation and Resilience
EDGAR is not a traditional documentary, nor does it follow a typical narrative arc. Instead, it immerses viewers into a stream-of-consciousness experience that tracks 24 hours in the life of its subject, Edgar, a homeless man navigating the midnight shadows and daylight beauty of Manhattan. The film challenges viewers to look past the surface and witness the moments of quiet dignity, inner reflection, and fleeting wonder that exist even at the margins of society.
The film was captured with the help of cinematographers Eliana Alvarez Martinez, Sebastian Barbera, and Violieta D’Agata, whose handheld, observational style lends the film a raw yet artful visual texture. The editing, executed by Justin Tims and Vlad Yudin, stitches the footage together into an evocative montage that feels both personal and surreal.
“We wanted to take a different approach with EDGAR,” said director Vlad Yudin. “This isn’t a story about struggle alone. It’s about perspective. About the unseen beauty that exists even in lives that society too often ignores. The city is brutal, yes. But it’s also alive with moments that deserve attention, no matter who is experiencing them.”
